Mamacitas Mexican Restaurant NASA |
| 4.4 out of 5 stars |
Disappointing Changes in Service, Attitude, and Cleanliness at Mamacita's NASA I've been a regular at Mamacita's on NASA Road 1 for years because when Lalo and Alex were on the floor (especially Lalo as manager), the place had a personal, welcoming feel—you were treated like you mattered every single time. That warmth has faded significantly, particularly more recently with Claudia overseeing more shifts. The overall attitude now often makes the customer feel like the inconvenience, with staff seeming to think they can do no wrong. This shift wasn't present before. A handful of the male waitstaff treat tips as mandatory instead of earned through good service. They frequently disappear for long stretches, leaving tables unattended, and only reappear sporadically. If you leave a lower tip after poor service, the next visit's service gets noticeably worse—it's discouraging and feels retaliatory. (This appears limited to a small group of male servers, based on my experiences.) On top of that, the bathroom stalls are always dirty and nasty, with poor maintenance that stands out compared to the standards I remember from earlier years. It could help if receipts included an option to allocate tips a checkbox for waiter vs. busboy, to better reflect who contributes to the service. It's really sad to see these changes at what used to be my favorite spot for solid Tex-Mex and great hospitality. The food remains tasty, but the decline in personal service, staff attitude, and basic cleanliness has me thinking twice about returning. I hope management addresses these issues, many regulars miss the old vibe and would love to see it restored.
This place is amazing, the food delicious and service was amazing. We had the best waitress. Michaela was sweet, attentive and we couldn’t have asked for a better server. We will be back soon!
I have never in the history of my life had a more disgusting experience of a restaurant. They don’t wear gloves even for there chips. I have worked now’s her and even saw them use there hands after the use the resto. This is the most horrible place you ever could eat at. Also, they do not use proooer ounces of alcohol for there drinks which could actually kill people who take medication. I would t recommend this restaurant to anybody dead or alive. Imagine if you had a so. In high school or middle school and he went here. After I ate here I tested positive for HIV and had to go to the hospital. I ordered a tequila drink and the whole drink was nothing but tequila. I eat at allot of different restaurants and this is never a pace for any woman, man or kid to ever eat at. I would recommend McDonald’s before this.
Personal muy amable y comida Exelente (Translated by Google) Very friendly staff and excellent food
This was our second time to eat here, both times the food and service were excellent. Our waiter Alex did a great job taking care of all our needs and was very attentive. I've been eating Mexican food since I was very young. I've tried it all over the world from Thailand to Japan and even Mexico. Mamacita's is very authentic, we especially like the chips which are very crunchy, not oily, flavorful and not too thin. The beef fajita meat is one of the best I've found. Better than Gringo's or The Donkey in Pasadena.
Omg food amazing try thr tlapeno soup. I am obsessed so good I had to take some home . Try the Nasa location service is amazing and friendly and fast.
We've been eating at Mamacita's for more than 35 years. We still love the people and the food!
I ordered 4 Street tacos , 3 Fajitas and 1 Brisket Tacos I was not happy with the tacos , I ate 1 Fajitas taco it was very chewy , so I tried another one it was the same then I tried the Brisket taco that was dry. I did let the waitress know about it, she said i would let them know, I didn't hear anything else! I was very disappointed I paid $18 for four Street tacos. I suggest don't order Street tacos.
Get the street corn app :) so good!
What a great find. Our server was distinctly patient and cheerful, accommodating and attentive without being overbearing. I don’t normally think much about chips, but these were outstanding. Fresh, crisp, not greasy, perfect amount of salt. I could have filled up on them, especially with the tasty salsa. We tried chalupas and tacos. Everyone was delighted; plates were thoroughly cleaned. Puffy and sweet, sopapillas are a great way to end the meal. As an aside, check out the large tortilla making machine. Quite entertaining to watch the cook make several dozen.
Great food and amazing staff!!
Just eat here. You wint regret it. Great atmosphere. Good service and the food is delicious.
Food and service were amazing. Fantastic vegetarian food.
Not a fan of their rice. But food was good otherwise. Service was hit ot miss this visit. But it was Xmas eve so I tried not to be too harsh.
Large menu, great margaritas, excellent service, nice ambience inside and outdoor seating. All around solid tex-mex joint
Great foof and service
Our favorite restaurant
Always the best Tex-Mex, daily, for decades!
Great Mexican food!
It's always a good time here!!!
Love everything we ordered! It was all delicious and the service was great too!
40 of us held our club meeting here and the service was excellent, same as last time we met here.
We stopped there for lunch. All dishes were if good quality and service crew was very attentive and friendly. The bar was nicely organized and even with many customers during lunchtime they took care for every customer and got us freshly made tacos. Very delicious!
Fantastic Mexican : Vegetable Soup.
Amazing food and very reasonable prices, the atmosphere was great and Gualo took very good care of us. The Cochinita pibil and Birria were very soft and full of flavor, and the portion sizes were good. The good came out super fast, not a long wait I am coming back
I have lived in the area for over 20 years and Mamacita's is one of my top three Mexican restaurants in the Clear Lake area. The food is AMAZING and AUTHENTIC. I have tried so many dishes, but my favorites are (in no particular order) Street Tacos (fajita, I also order a side of queso fresco), chicken flautas, Tacos de Birria, and Caldo Tlalpeño. Mom loves the chorizo and queso flameado and the Mole. I can't wait to try the Pozole. All the staff is very courteous and professional and we love Mr. Andrés. Trust me, you will dine at Mamacita's several times per month. Did I mention the Agua de Horchata (sweet rice water) and drinks? The best. Your chips and salsa bowls will never be empty. My favorite salsa is the red one. You all enjoy and take care. Muy buen provecho.
Good food and margaritas too.
Was craving for Mexican food and this place did not disappoint!
Authentic, delicious Mexican fare. This meal, the ceviche, the hot salsa...was all part of a very positive experience! I liked the option to bring up the heat on some dishes, order sauces, usually on others. Our server was so good at her job, it almost felt as though we were being cared for by the owner! Highly recommended. Enjoy!
Good food. Great fish tacos.
Luncheon with the ladies
Excellent service manners.
Great Food. Excellent Service.
Edit: Honestly, the value just isn’t really there anymore. I like the food and drinks but it’s not worth the inflated prices they charge now. I understand that Don Julio is a nice tequila. And I understand that the large margarita is pretty big. But it shouldn’t cost over $60 to come have 2 drinks. It’s not a Vegas nightclub. I know you pay for the experience, but when a bottle of Don Julio rep costs $41 at Total Wine… why bother? Sadly, we won’t be going here anymore. It used to be a good balance of quality to pricing but now there’s several spots that make Mamacitas not worth the visit. Shame bc it used to be part of the regular rotation. Lord. I’ve been here prob 50+ times no BS. What a spot! Service has always been great. Especially at the bar. Prices are decent in comparison to other area restaurants. Drinks are strong. Food is delicious. I really have nothing at all bad to say after several years of frequenting this location.
Muy recomendable (Translated by Google) Highly recommended
Good food Good service.
Outstanding Tex-Mex food plus Yucatan options that are my favorite. I had the cocinanita pilbi for lunch and had it for dinner another night.
Favorite Sunday place
Great atmosphere clean waiters are amazing and attentive specially Iris she really took care of us . The food is delicious
Clean and friendly staff. But the portion of fajitas for 2 for the price is not very good. It's portion is small. And You only get 4 small tortillas with pico de gallo and Avocado on the side.
I really liked the entire experience.
Horrible service. We didn't even get to try the food. We were seated but then waited 20 minutes and our order was never taken. Servers kept walking by us but no one stopped. So we walked out and left. Skip this place!
This was our first time eating at Mamacitas-the one near NASA. We would have had a great time, but the waiter made the experience awful. He didn't start out the conversation with the "hi, I'm *blank*" so we didn't get his name. With his attitude the whole time I can see why he probably doesn't do that. The only way I can identify him is that he appeared to be blind/hard of seeing in one eye. He got our drinks which was no red flag. He took our orders, didn't write it down, which isn't a big deal, but he did have to come back a moment later and ask us both questions about our order that we already stated-like if we wanted chicken or beef. He brought us our food. After that we didn't see him till the bill. We didn't get a chance to refill our chips/salsa and someone else-not sure if it was another waiter, finally offered to refill my husbands drink for him. So it wasn't a terrible experience, but could have been better. Not asking for over the top service, but he did bare minimum. Drink order, food order, and bill so the actually waiting on us part was in short supply. Someone else had to provide us the extras-refills etc. So we didn't feel he deserved above and beyond tip. We tipped about 9% since it was all in cash and told him we didn't need change. He comes back after doing the check and asks us again "so you don't need change?" It was obvious to me it was a rhetorical question, because the extra tip cash that went along with the bill was in ones so he didn't have to break any big bills. He proceeds to walk away grunting and shaking his head and stands next to the kitchen door about 10ish feet from our table continuing shaking his head, talking to the staff and looking and pointing directly at us. You don't automatically deserve a big tip. Tipping is based off of what is provided. Bare minimum and grumpy effort won't get far with customers. Plus it will teach him bare minimum and grumpy effort will get a tip no matter what so then why put in an effort? We knew he had an attitude from the beginning, but he proved that our perceived notion of him was correct. Couldn't imagine someone my father's age acting like that in public. Probably wouldn't go back to at least this location.
We had a party of 10 and we had great service. The staff worked together to make sure we had what we needed at all times. No complains on the food either.
Had a great time!
